Hi all
We have amazing news. Based upon the success of our open Disruptors community, the UK's National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA.org.uk) is collaborating with us at Beyond Zero (www.beyondzero.cc), the people behind The Disruptors, on the first stages of a socially-networked online platform that will enable the wisdom of the crowd to create rich and nuanced systems maps for every social (and commercial) challenge, and then facilitate disruptors to work together to develop the breakthrough innovations that will provoke the systemic change we all want to see.
Because the systems and ideas will be crowd-sourced, we hope they will be more accurate and relevant than those created by smaller groups. And we know from our experiences over the years that co-ordinating the ideas, energies and resources of committed innovators makes success much more likely, particularly when attempting to overcome the vested interests of the systems we are attempting to shake up.
The platform - current name www.disrupt.it - will have a vital role - to help investors and funders focus in on the game-changing ideas that create the highest-returns on investment. And therefore help prevent the needless duplication of effort and reduce the time and money given to innovations doomed to failure because they don't take into account the systems they work within.
Finally the platform will be as much about connecting with people who 'get it' - so we can cross-fertilize ideas, precendents and approaches amongst us - as anything else.
Ultimately we are attempting a bold and ambitious project to disrupt the conventional consulting and innovation models for the benefit of humanity.
Our motto is: Think Systemically, Act Collaboratively, Innovate Disruptively
As practitioners and purveyors of human-centred design, we'd like to invite some of you to workshops in London in the coming weeks to help us formulate the concept further, so that it is built around your actual needs. We will also hold some phone or skype interviews with big thinkers and contributors living overseas.
If you'd like to be included, email me on nick@beyondzero.cc. As we only have places for 10-15 people (and some are already filled with arch-practitioners of the disruptive arts), and we want to ensure a great spread of leading-edge thinkers and doers from all sectors, please can you send me a link or paragraph on what you feel you'd like to contribute to the conversation.
There will be opps to get involved at a later stage (should we receive further investment of course).
And if you know of someone who is a pioneering systems thinker or innovator, particularly if they are within the VC, funding or corporate strategy community, please do send this on to them as their usage of the platform will ultimately help determine its viability.
Happy disruptions for the season (and apologies for the longer-than-usual message)
Nick
