Alternative Economy Cultures: workshops in Helsinki April 3 to 5

Via Andrew Paterson:

The ‘Alternative Economy Cultures’ (alt.econ.cult) programme explores relationships between networked cultural praxis and economics.

Alternative economic systems to the free-market capitalist one have been employed and practiced on various scales, offering applications and solutions to raising and distributing financial capital locally and trans-nationally. On the other hand, network culture and research by activists, in particular, has contributed essential ideas regarding collaborative production among peers, shared wealth and appropriate reward for effort involved; as well as raising awareness of social, cultural and human capital in exchange systems.

Cultural practitioners, activists, and economic theorists from Finland and abroad, working from different contexts, strategies and institutional backgrounds, have been invited to contribute to this theme, including:

Michael Albert (US), Michel Bauwens (BE/TH), Jeroen Carelse (NL/FI), Geraldine Juarez (MX), Tapani Köppä (FI), David Lloyd (UK/FI), Wojtek Mejor (PL), Piratbyrån (SE), Porkkanamafia (FI), Oliver Ressler (AT), Felix Stalder (AT), Tere Vadén (FI), Eero Yli-Vakkuri (FI), and more.

Scheduled events:

Friday 3rd April, 10.00 - 18.00
Full 1 Day Seminar at Kiasma theatre/seminar room

Sunday 5th April, time to be confirmed
Peer-funding workshop with Geraldine Juarez and others, at Demos Helsinki Office (Laivurinkatu 41)

.

The seminar and related workshop is organised by Andrew Paterson (SCO/FI), and chaired by Marita Muukkonen & Ivor Stodolsky, of Perpetuum Mobile, and Roope Mokka, of Demos Helsinki (FI).

Further, in collaboration with Demos Helsinki, an online peer-fundraising system will be set up and trialed in advance of the seminar. This will aim to raise seminar costs, such as hospitality, travel and fee costs. Already both keynote speakers (Albert and Bauwens) will be present in Helsinki thanks to the support of seed-funding from enthusiastic individual peers and non-profit organisations, covering their upfront travel costs. We invite you to support the seminar event with voluntary donations, to spread out the personal cost and equalise the balance.

Collective contribution, different types of capital and effort!
(This seminar is already an example using social, cultural, institutional, human and financial forms of capital)

More info about donation system from week beginning 9th March.
